Advertisers in HCM City have been constantly complaining about the City's ban on the advertisements on buses and taxis. Bus and taxi owners have also complained about their lost revenue opportunities due to this ban. It was reported that the HCM City People's Committee has had to subsidise billions of VND to the City's bus system annually.
City Regulation No.39 released in June this year reconfirmed this ban. No advertisements are allowed on the outside of buses and taxis in HCM City.
Soon after the Regulation was issued, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism sent HCM City People's Committee an official reminder that this Regulation was not in accordance with Vietnam's advertising laws and regulations. The City People's Committee is examining the issue and has not yet released any official reply. The local advertisers are still waiting anxiously.
